Whitby is a special community. Residents tell me every day that they are proud to live in our Town and appreciate the bonds they have formed.
I am running to be your Mayor because I care deeply about our community where I was raised, educated and work. I want to work for you, with my Town Council colleagues, as a team that is driven to deliver the high quality services our residents and businesses deserve.
I will be your full-time, non-partisan Mayor, laser focused on serving the people of our Town.
As Mayor, I will work to keep taxes as low as possible for the residents of our community, investing in priorities that matter, including local jobs, more green space and continued revitalization of our two downtowns.

Whitby is a special community. It is unique in the GTA. We have a beautiful waterfront, a resilient business sector, excellent schools, vibrant sports facilities, compassionate social services and peaceful parks.
Residents tell me every day that they are proud to live in our Town and appreciate the bonds which they have formed. As a Town Councillor, I have responded like a good neighbour. Good neighbours help each other and pull together in tough times. I look forward to working hard for all residents of Whitby.
New Ideas
Now, I am running to be your mayor because I care deeply about our community where I was raised, educated and work. I have heard from neighbours, businesses and friends that they want to see respectful growth, respect for taxpayers, and respect for our natural environment.
As a lawyer, I have worked with all levels of government and advocated for people with diverse interests to find solutions to their challenges. Inspired by my father, Des Newman who was Mayor of Whitby, I want to build on our town’s past successes with new ideas.
